Elmo and Velma Dees were the second set of twins born to John and Allily Dees February 6, 1948, on the farm at North Gila Valley in Yuma, Arizona. While in high school Elmo excelled in track for three years. After high school he enrolled at Mesa Community College, where he ran track. After two years Elmo transferred to San Jose College, in San Jose, California. Upon completing college he returned to Yuma, to the ranch in Yuma.

In 1975 he purchased five registry females, and ran them until 1987 under his band MO.

Elmo has three children, Dempsey, Jonathan, and Elizabeth.

Elmo manages the ranch when Alex is on the road, at sales, consulting, and judging. He also maintains a small hog operation.
